EXTRA - SuperSport United’s Gavin Hunt, Daine Klate and Thandani Ntshumayelo win all 3 PSL awards of the month
Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mabhudi Khenyeza has been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to play Japan and Jamaica for failing to honour the national team call-up.
"The striker also failed to answer any calls from the national team regarding his absence," Bafana spokesman Matlhomola Morake said in a statement.
“At this point of the final lap to the World Cup, we cannot accept these things happening – we will not accept this kind of behaviour from any player in the team," said Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Parreira.
Earlier on Monday, Khenyeza tried to make amends by meeting with his club informing them of his decision not to join up with the national team, and subsequently he attended another meeting with the Bafana Bafana technical team to explain his actions.
Parreira indicated he may be prepared to give Khenyeza another chance, stating:
"The door is not closed on him, and it’s not the end of the road for him regarding the World Cup – but it’s up to him to show that he wants to return to the national team”.
Golden Arrows striker Richard Henyekane will take Khenyeza’s place.
NOT FOR THE FIRST TIME...
Khenyeza has fallen out of favour with the national coaching team before - he also failed to turn up for camp ahead of the Confederations Cup.
Also out of the squad - this time due to injury - is Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siboniso Gaxa. He is replaced by Lance Davids of Ajax Cape Town.
Meanwhile, Morake says all but 5 players are still to arrive in camp.
The Belgium-based duo of Bernard Parker and Anele Ngcongca are expected on Monday night (09 November), together with Macbeth Sibaya who plays in Russia.
England-based Kagiso Dikgacoi is expected on Tuesday while Tsepo Masilela will be the last player to arrive in camp on Wednesday.
Bafana will be playing Japan and Jamaica on November 14 and 17 in Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein respectively.
PSL Players and Coach of the Month:
Daine Klate from SuperSport United has earned the accolade of the Player of the Month, with judges describing his performance as "having improved five-fold".
"He has enhanced his defensive abilities and is attacking fiercely," the judges added.
On the coaching front, Gavin Hunt (also from SuperSport United) won the award for his "sterling ability".
Hunt led his players to a 3-0 win over Pirates and a 5-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces, which was Aces’, first loss at home. This is the second win in a row for Hunt; last month he shared the spotlight with Roger De Sa (the Wits coach).
The Red Hot Young Player for this month is SuperSport United’s 19-year-old Thandani Ntshumayelo.
