Several European and Asian countries have complained about its “unbearable noise” .

The latest team to complain was Japan after their goalless draw against Bafana Bafana in an international friendly in Port Elizabeth a fortnight ago.

Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has also expressed support for the use of the instrument at games.

“I love it,” admitted Parreira at the same Sandton event yesterday.

“It is part of South African football. The noise is helping us to confuse the opposition.”
