ATLANTA Olympics 800m silver medallist, Hezekiel Sepeng, has warned of chaos if more athletes are not elected to the Athletics South Africa (ASA) board next April.
“We want 50 percent representation on the board in April, it’s as simple as that,” said Sepeng after a nine member interim board was elected on Saturday.
Sascoc suspended the entire ASA board over its handling of the Caster Semenya gender tests.
Hendrik Mokganyetsi was the only athlete on the ASA board but has resigned.
“Great athletes like Hendrik Ramaala, Ruben Ramolefi and Geraldine Pillay must lead us.”
Sepeng was on Thursday elected deputy president of Central Gauteng Athletics.
Ray Mali, ASA interim administrator, said the interim board’s life span will depend on the disciplinary hearings against the suspended board.
The interim board is: Ramaala, Aleck Skosana, James Evans, Daan Louw, James Moloi, Pieter Lourens, Blanche Moila and Pillay.
There was drama after the meeting when former athletes, Sam Mlangeni and Arnauld Malherbe almost came to blows .
