Soweto TV follows lives of four dating women amid Covid-19

Soweto TV is airing its first original reality show, Single in Soweto, which chronicles the dating world during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The four-part show that debuted on Thursday sees cameras follow the lives of four women, Bathabile Dlodlo, Six Nyamane, Mosa Kaiser and Sindile Ramabele.

“It doesn’t get more real than this,” said Thabo ‘Tbo Touch’ Molefe, channel executive officer of Soweto TV.

“Every Thursday evening Sowetans and the nation will be clamouring for front row seat to share in the drama of the four single girls next door.”

Dlodlo is a traditional healer and digital marketer who also own a catering company.

“As a woman raised in Soweto it’s up to me to change the narrative and show the world what Soweto is really made of and this show was the perfect platform,” Dlodlo said.

TV and radio personality Kaiser has appeared in international films such as Hotel Rwanda and Ghost Son.

“It’s such an uncertain time because we have all been slapped in the face and this show documents us navigating through our lives,” Kaiser said.

“For me the docu-series forced me to interrogate where I’m from and looked at who I was before the lockdown.”

Fellow actor Nyamane added: “I always play and pretend, but I also want to tell real stories.”

Nyamane have starred in local romcom Blessers opposite Kenneth Nkosi, Sonia Mbele and Connie Chiume.

Fashion designer Ramabele just wanted to showcase her work.

“I decided to do the show because it's a great platform to show my work and I got to meet new people who do amazing things,” Ramabele said.

“It was a great opportunity to tell my story since Covid19 hit SA and become a voice for those like me who got extremely affected by the pandemic.”

The reality show comes as a result of MultiChoice Group selecting earlier this year three community TV stations to curate original new content for their viewers.

“We pride ourselves on the role we play in the creation of new local content and this show epitomises the extent of the talent we have on the continent, given the resources and the opportunity,” said  MultiChoice's Joe Heshu.
