Master KG, Zozibini Tunzi, Bonang Matheba, Thuso Mbedu and Siya Kolisi have each scored a nomination at the 2021 Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards.

Jerusalema hit-maker Master KG will compete with big international powerhouses at the awards set to stage their 34th instalment on March 14.

The 25-year-old Limpopo-born musician is the only African artist to crack a nod in the Favourite Global Music Star category.

He is up against BTS (Asia), David Guetta (Europe), Savannah Clarke (Australia), Taylor Swift (North America) and Sebastian Yatra (Latin America).

Tunzi, currently the reigning Miss Universe, will take on Underground Railroad actor Mbedu and Springbok captain Kolisi for Favourite African Star.

The category also gives recognition to soccer stars Mo Salah (Egypt) and Sadio Mane (Senegal) as well as Ugandan musician Sheebah Karungi.

Matheba and magician Wian van den Berg will represent SA in the Favourite African Social Media Star category. They will duke it out with Elsa Majimbo (Kenya), Ikorodu Bois (Nigeria), Emmanuella (Nigeria) and Ghetto Kids (Uganda).

“Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2021 unites children and families across the globe by providing them with a powerful platform to celebrate their favourite personalities,” said Monde Twala, senior vice president and general manager at ViacomCBS Networks Africa.

“We are especially proud of the incredible diversity of representation across the continent and congratulate all nominees who are positively representing Africa at this global event.

“Parents and kids can expect lots of fun, slime, inspiration and laughter from this year’s innovative show.”

The awards will be hosted by American comedian Kenan Thompson. Justin Bieber leads the nomination pack with five nods with Stranger Things in close second with four nods; while Ariana Grande and Wonder Woman 1984 are tied third place with three nods.

Last year Sho Madjozi bagged the award for Favourite African Star and local rapper AKA won the same award in 2019.
