Metro FM radio host Lerato Kganyago is raising funds to buy sanitary towels for girls and women from disadvantaged backgrounds through a star-studded virtual music concert that will take place on Friday.
The concert will feature personalities such as Sphe, Naves, Naked DJ, Lamiez Holworthy, Dineo Ranaka, DJ Zinhle, DJ Jawz, Ayanda MVP, DJ China, Miss Pru DJ, DJ Sumbody, Moflava and DJs from other African countries.
Meanwhile, Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung, Ayanda Thabethe and Melody Molale will be the hosts of the show. Titled Period Poverty Benefit Concert, the event will be streamed online on Zoom for free from 5pm.
Kganyago said she decided to start the initiative under her brand Flutter by LKG last year to assist girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through the initiative, Kganyago has already donated over 60,000 sanitary products to disadvantaged young girls and women across SA.
“To not be able to go to school or earn a living simply because you do not have access to sanitary pads is heartbreaking because this is a challenge which can so easily be solved if we help each other. I hope that this event will help play a small but pivotal role in helping us all join hands together to help many young women to realise their dreams. People will be pledging while the show is on,” Kganyago said.
“In an effort to further reduce the period of poverty, each DJ on the line-up will donate 100 Flutter by LKG sanitary pads to a charity of their choice. The event is supported by minister of social development Lindiwe Zulu, Free State MEC for finance Gadija Brown and Gauteng MEC Fasiha Hassan, who will each make special appearances during the broadcast of the show.
