Liteboho Molise will not be playing another villainous role after departing her Muvhango character Teboho that made her a household name.

Instead she will portray a much nicer character in new 1Magic telenovela Lingashoni that will premiere on March 22.

Molise plays the role of Seipati Moeketsi in the new show, a farmworker with two children.

“This character is much nicer than my Muvhango character. She is  a family lady and much more traditional. This is the break I needed after playing Teboho for so long. It’s also challenging because if you play a character for nine years you start to not know what else you can do,” Molise said.

“I had been on Muvhango for a long time and they had become family to me. It still is my family and it was home. But now I’m meeting new people and creating new relationships.

“It was not difficult because I have met some warm people and [they are] very accommodating. So they didn’t make it difficult for me to blend in.  That was amazing and refreshing because you think that sometimes you are going to meet bad people.”

Molise admits that it was not an easy decision to exit her much-loved character on Muvhango, especially as it was her breakout role and she stayed with the Venda soapie for almost a decade.

“It was hard to leave Muvhango and the decision was so tough. I was torn, but I felt like it was time for growth. Muvhango was very supportive and understood that it was time to go. That helped me in a way because of that support,” Molise said.

In the new show Molise is joined by Scandal! actor Patrick Mofokeng, former Isibaya star Thuli Thabethe and ex-Generations leading man Thato Molamu.

Mofokeng is also leaving his role as Mlungisi Ngema on Scandal! after seven years.

“It’s an exciting challenge and it’s something different. It’s a change for me since I was on Scandal! for some time. The character is intriguing as he’s a politician and tenderpreneur. People can expect some bombshells and excitement,” Mofokeng said.

“Initially I was meant to be on Scandal! for four months, but that turned into seven years. The character just grew. Before I was doing a lot of film work, needed a break for a year and Scandal! was that for me.

“For the last two years I have been looking for change and to start acting again. Soapies sometimes become autopilot and microwave acting – you cook and eat it now. This show for me is exciting because we are on location and I’m being reborn.”

Having acted in high-profile productions including Zone 14 and Invictus, Mofokeng said the meatiness of his new role Mandla Cele reminded him of his Safta-winning performance in The Good Provider in 2006.

Lingashoni is the brainchild of Uzalo, Durban Gen and eHostela producers Stained Glass TV. The show depicts the life of a high-flying businessman (Mofokeng), who returns home to reclaim his life after being declared dead 10 years ago.
