The SABC and production company Cake Media have assured viewers that The Braai Show with Cassper Nyovest will air uninterrupted, despite all the legal drama with former host AKA over his exclusion from the second season.

The show is expected to premiere on Wednesday with former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi being the first guest.

Other guests for the rest of the season include Makhadzi, Lekau Sehaona, Mihlali Ndamase, Presley Chweneyagae, Somizi Mhlongo and Dingaan Thobela.

Both the public broadcaster and Cake Media told Sowetan on Tuesday that they were confident that AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, will not pursue court action that will attempt to stop the show from airing.

They confirmed that two weeks ago, AKA applied for an urgent court interdict but later withdrew the application.

“The SABC would like to reiterate that The Braai Show with Cassper will continue as planned and the urgent court application in question has been withdrawn,” said Gugu Ntuli, SABC group executive for corporate affairs and marketing.

Producer David Phume said: “Season two of The Braai Show — The Braai Show with Cassper Nyovest — starts on Wednesday, 8 September at 6pm on SABC1 and every Wednesday thereafter at the same time for the next 12 weeks.

“AKA withdrew his attempted court action soon after receiving Cake Media’s legal response that showed the futility of his action based on erroneous and non-existent legal claims.

“Together with our associates and partners, our legal rights about the show are crisp and solid. There are 13 episodes and viewers should make a date with the show — subject of course to any scheduling changes the broadcaster may make.”

AKA’s publicist Phumza Nohashe had not responded to Sowetan’s questions about whether the rapper had resolved the matter with Cake Media.

The drama started last month after the second season of the show replaced AKA with rival Cassper Nyovest as the host and also snubbed him as executive producer, while he was credited as such for the first season last year.

AKA then demanded 50% copyright entitlement in a legal letter issued to SABC or cease the scheduled airing.
