Anxiety can leave one feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope with day-to-day life. Finding ways to ease anxiety bears several benefits such as improved sleep and renewed strength.

Life coach Neshica Bheem recommends these practical steps to help ease anxiety:

1. Be present

As hard as it might be, try to stay in the present moment. Don’t dwell on thoughts that focus on past events because the past cannot be changed. Don’t linger on imagining future scenarios either because that may not ever come to pass. Focus on the present and on verifiable facts.

2. Breathe

Breathing exercises are helpful in calming the mind and body. Slow and deep breathing oxygenates the body and keeps us in the present moment.

3. Stick to routine

Focus on things you can control. If you are able to, go on with your daily routine at home or work. Routine is helpful to keep us moving forward and keep us focused.

4. Say no to doomscrolling

Limit time on social media and use platforms only as a means to stay informed. Do not spend too much time on social media dwelling on disheartening information.

5. Avoid stimulants

Avoiding stimulants like coffee and alcohol can be helpful because the effect they have on the body can worsen your anxiety symptoms. Rather increase your intake of water to help with your hydration levels.
