A magistrate yesterday had the gallery in stitches when he claimed to have seen a mouse in his podium.

Magistrate Christopher Chokwe was speaking during recess in the Pretoria correctional centre.

The prosecutor, defence attorney and suspects could not help but laugh when Chokwe revealed what he had seen.

“There is a mouse here and for your sakes, I hope it does not come that side. It is this big,” Chokwe said, demonstrating the size of the mouse with his fingers.

He went on to explain how he found it odd that human beings could be afraid of such a little mammal.

“It's amazing that humans can be scared of a mouse, which is a very small animal, yet they can take on (former heavyweight boxing champion) Mike Tyson. Tyson is a massive guy, yet some people have stood up to him, but they would be so afraid of a mouse. Unbelievable,” he said.
