'Letters to Obama' launched

From the Children of South Africa "Dear President Obama, I just want to tell you that you have been a good president and I love the things you have done for us. When I see your eyes you make stars shine, you make dreams come true, I love you and while I am writing this I hope you love the letter. I dreamt of you holding my hands and hugging me.

From the Children of South Africa

"Dear President Obama, I just want to tell you that you have been a good president and I love the things you have done for us. When I see your eyes you make stars shine, you make dreams come true, I love you and while I am writing this I hope you love the letter. I dreamt of you holding my hands and hugging me."

This letter from Mpumelelo Mahlangu, a Grade 11 pupil at Haakdoorn Primary School in Pretoria, is one of the many in the book Letters to President Obama from the Children of South Africa.

The book, compiled by Mukanda Mabonso Mulemfo, was launched in Pretoria last week.

It is a follow-up to Children's Letters to President Zuma, published last October.

A follow-up book is in the pipeline with Zuma responding to the children's letters.

The project is meant to develop a culture of reading among young children.

At the launch an excited Mahlangu said: "I did not think my speech would be chosen. I am so excited to see my handwriting in a book."
