A 35-year-old police officer shot and killed his wife and turned the gun on himself in Kagiso, on the West Rand, Gauteng police said.
The couple was discovered at their house in Sibanyoni Street on Saturday afternoon, Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said.
"It is unclear what led to the tragedy."
The officer worked with the Krugersdorp detectives. Police opened a case of murder and an inquest.
