Three boys have been suspended from a Soweto school and are facing a court case following a charge of rape being opened with police.

Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is visiting the Soweto school on Tuesday.

His office disclosed that a criminal case had been opened with the police into allegations that a grade 8 pupil was raped by three fellow pupils while attending a school orientation camp in De Deur over the weekend.

"Our psycho social team will provide counselling to the victim and other learners accordingly," the department said.

A police investigation is under way.
