This is one of the scriptures read at a virtual church service yesterday, as spirited congregants of fugitive Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church sang their hearts out hoping to pray away the international storm sparked by his escape from SA.
Pastors yesterday used the virtual service to plead with congregants to pray for their leader's vindication, for justice to prevail and for him to win against his enemies.
Several preachers took to the podium where each of them shared the word, under the theme the power of worship.
The service, scheduled to start at 2pm, began almost two hours late with the church choir kicking off things with powerful music.
Some of the scriptures and messages of the day came from Exodus 23 verses 25 and 26; Psalm 31 verses 19 and 20; Geneses chapter 3 verse 16-17 and Isaiah chapter 40 verse 31.
Psalm 31 reads in part: "...What a stack of blessing you have piled up for those who worship you, ready and waiting for all who run to you to escape an unkind world. You hide them safely away from the opposition. As you slam the door on those oily mocking faces, you silence the poisonous gossip...”
After repeatedly reading the scripture about material belongings, apostle Magawa said: “If we put our bank details on the screen, just know it is part of the worship to God. Show them the account, show them the account.”
The church’s bank details were then put on the screen as the band sang, “Jehova is your name, fight for us, silence every voices.”
He then read Exodus chapter 10 verse 26, which seemed to justify Bushiri's escape from SA.
It reads: “Our livestock has to go with us with not a hoof left behind. They are part of the worship of our God. And we don’t know just what will be needed until we are there.”
