Angry community members in Delmas have embarked on a march to the Bernice Samuel Hospital following a recent incident where a baby's arm had to be amputated after alleged negligence by staff members.

The protesters, backed by The ANC Youth League, aim to deliver a memorandum of demands and grievances against the hospital's operations. The community has over the years been accusing the hospital of negligence and ill-treatment of patients for several years.

Charmaine Kubeka, leader of the march, said: "It cannot be that every person that comes to this hospital alive, leaves dead when they come for basic health services and wellness procedures."

She said there had been several cases of negligence at Bernice Samuel that have angered the community.

"Every nurse and doctor have been children and patients in hospitals in their communities before so why is it that after getting their qualifications they forget about humanity when on duty?"

Kubeka said there are many families with complaints of negligence against the hospital.

"It ends today, we say no to medical negligence, we also say no to corrupt nurses and doctors. We are here to submit our memorandum of demands and we will not return to address the same thing again; enough is enough with the brutality at Bernice Samuel hospital."
