A R2.1m Tshwane double-storey home, several cars and another house in eMalahleni were among movable and immovable properties attached by the Investigative Directorate's Asset Forfeiture Unit (NPA) as part of Eskom's R745m Kusile power station's corruption case.

Six houses with a total value of R13m were seized.

The NPA obtained a preservation order on the properties, including several bank accounts belonging to four men and their businesses embroiled in the corruption case which is currently before court.

Two former Eskom executives, France Hlakudi and Abram Masango, together with three businessmen Antonio Jose da Costa Trindade, Michael Loma and Maphoko Kgomoeswana, are embroiled in this multimillion rand corruption case which is now before court.

A double-storey house in the quiet leafy suburb of Moreleta, in Tshwane's eastern suburbs owned by Hlakudi, former contracts manager, was visited by a sheriff of the court armed with a preservation order which was granted to NPA to attach the property.

The modern house which features three garages and a wall topped with an electric fence was raided by the sheriff this morning.

Hlakudi's seven bank accounts held with FNB and Standard Bank and those of his companies were among those attached and frozen as part of the preservation order.

Another house in Del Judor, a suburb in eMalahleni worth R1.4m, belonging to Masango, former Eskom Group Executive for the Group Capital Division was among those attached on Tuesday morning.

The investigative directorate's indictment against the two former Eskom bosses accuses them of fraud and corruption after they allegedly received kickbacks amounting to around R30m for ensuring that Tubular Construction Projects (TCP) won a contract at Kusile Power Station worth around R1.2bn.

Masango and Hlakudi are accused of pushing that TCP be awarded a R745m contract in April 2016 which later ballooned to R1.2bn.

Among other restrained assets are a R2.2m home in Sheffield Beach Kwa-Dukuza, in KwaZulu-Natal and a Sunninghill property valued at R940,000 and Bedfordview home owned by Trindade valued at R5m, as well as five cars.

Kgomoeswana’s preserved assets include his Polokwane home valued at R1.1m, a vehicle and his company, Babinatlou Properties, valued at over R3m.
