A man who is alleged to have been the triggerman in the murder of North West businessman Wandile Bozwana has been arrested.
The man, who is a KZN taxi boss, cannot be named as he is expected to be formally charged, will be expected to appear in the Pretoria magistrate's court on Monday.
He is the fifth suspect to be arrested after being on the run since Bozwana’s murder. His arrest comes six years after he was able to evade authorities after being sought in connection with Bozwana’s murder. His co-accused, Sipho Patrick Hudla, Matamela Robert Mutapa, Vusi Reginald “Khekhe” Mathibela and Bonginkosi Paul Khumalo were nabbed after the assassination.
The four pleaded not guilty in the murder of Bozwana and attempted murder of his business partner, Mpho Baloyi.
Baloyi, who was also wounded, managed to drive on and obtain help at a glass company in Menlyn.
Bozwana, however, passed away shortly afterwards.
Hudla, Mutapa, and Khumalo implicated the KZN taxi boss in confession statements they made to the police after their arrests.
In his confession, which was read out in the North Gauteng High Court by the SAPS officer who took it down, Hudla said he was at a taxi rank that day with his friends, when one of them said “Vusi” (no surname given in the statement) just phoned and wanted to meet them.
He said the rifle was handed to him and they proceeded to follow Bozwana on the N1, towards Pretoria.
At the Garsfontein offramp he and one of his co-accused got out of the car when it stopped at the traffic light.
“I went to the left hand side of the car and he [the taxi boss] went to the right side. I fired five shots at the man and he [the taxi boss] fired through the driver’s side,” the statement read.
It is further stated that they then drove back to Alexandra, where they stopped at a petrol garage and met up with Vusi.
"Vusi thanked us and gave us R60,000, which we shared", the statement read.
