A neighbour has been arrested for the murder of a six-year-old girl who was reported missing on Sunday.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said Bokamoso Tjabadi was reported missing at 8pm in Phokoane village under the Sekhukhune district, and a search operation commenced.
He said the operation was conducted throughout the night and covered the entire village without any success.
Mojapelo said on Monday evening, they decided to search people's houses.
“One of the neighbours allegedly refused to grant anyone access to his house but entry was forcefully made. The child was then found dead in the house with no visible injuries. The suspect was immediately arrested,” Mojapelo said.
“As members of the South African Police Service in this province, we are more than determined to double our efforts to completely eradicate crimes perpetrated against women and children.”
Mojapelo said the postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
“The motive for this incident is unknown at this stage but the possibility of attempting to cover up another crime such as rape cannot be ruled out.”
The man, 35, will appear in the Nebo magistrate's court soon.
