The man who was gunned down together with a 21-year-old female passenger while driving in a Ferrari has been identified as businessman Warren Muzi Nzama.

Nzama, 41, from Mapetla, Soweto, and the unidentified woman died after the car they were travelling in was sprayed with bullets along Klipspruit Valley Road in Soweto on Sunday night.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieut-Col Mavela Masondo said at about 10pm, Nzama and the female passenger had driven the vehicle, resembling a 458 Italia, to the corner of Chris Hani and Klipspruit Valley roads.

According to witnesses, at that moment a Toyota Etios with an “unconfirmed number of occupants” blocked the Ferrari's way and its occupants opened fire before speeding off.

Masondo said no suspects have been arrested and the motive for the killing is unknown.

Nzama was an affluent businessman and was the managing director of Nzama Consulting based in Krugersdorp, on the West Rand. The company was founded by Nzama and his wife Thandeka Nombanjinji-Nzama in 2015 .

According to the company’s website, it provides services in the sectors of transport, mining and property. The website further elaborates that some of the services it provides include mining, plant hire, integrated communication technology, logistics, security services – guarding and armed response –  and VIP protection.

Nzama’s death sent shock waves around Soweto and on social media platforms, with people expressing their disbelief at his murder while posting pictures of him posing next to lavish vehicles, including the Ferrari he was killed in.

Facebook user Superior Elijah posted: “Makhulu Baas Muzi Warren Nzama gone too soon. You were a man who fought in lost of wars (sic), you were a winner in life, goodbye comrade, you are a role model for everyone. You will stay in our hearts.”

Masondo said no arrests had been made.
