A North West school principal has been put on special leave following an incident of assault that too place at Milner Secondary School in Klerksdorp on Wednesday.

In one of the two videos that had been doing rounds on social media, the principal can be seen grabbing the pupil from the back who eventually fall on the floor. In another video, the learner is sitting on a front desk and there is an argument between him, a teacher, principal and a deputy principal.

The 17-year-old grade 10 pupil brazenly tells one of the teachers that "you are nothing, I am going to tell you today".

In response, the teacher tells him that he assaulted the principal and he is not supposed to be at the school as he is suspended.

The pupil then tells the teacher that he pays school fees, he has every right to be at the school. Both videos were filmed inside the classroom.

North West education spokesperson Elias Malindi said they were told that the principal was trying to restrict the pupil from going out.

"It is alleged that after the assembly around 8am, the  management noticed that  the pupil who was on suspension for other disciplinary issues was seen at the school. When addressed about his violation of the suspension rule the learner quarrelled with the teachers, deputy principal and principal and the situation got physical," Malindi said.

MEC  Mmaphefo Matsemela condemned the incident.

“I take this time to strongly condemn any act of violence or assault that takes place within our school environment against any educator or learner. I have established a team to conduct an intensive immediate investigation on the incident so that an appropriate action could be taken.

"The principal has been put on a special leave to allow investigations to run smoothly without any interruption", Matsemela said.
