As the sun rose on election day, the first person to catch the rays while waiting at the gates of Sedi-Laka Primary School in ward 92, Allandale, Tembisa was Vusi Khuzwayo, 63.

He arrived at the school at 5am to cast his vote for the local municipality elections.

'I woke up at 4:30am to be here at 5am, I wanted to be early so that I can vote early and enjoy the rest of the day. I'm excited about today and can't wait to cast my vote' said Khuzwayo who have never missed an election since the 1994 elections."

Asked if he was happy with services in his community, Khuzwayo said that things could be improved but he was satisfied with the effort.

'I am not changing my vote, I'm happy about the party I'm voting for and my councillor. I'm giving them a chance to do more and improve' he said.

Amongst those who lined up with Khuzwayo were mostly the elderly, with young people missing from the early queues.

The atmosphere is calm at the voting station as voters chat and share jokes while few political parties put up gazebos doing last minute campaigning.
