TV personality and businesswoman Amanda du-Pont has accused her ex-boyfriend rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye of having previously admitted to raping her.

This is contained in a statement that Du-Pont has submitted to police in support of a rape case she has laid against the rapper at the Brixton police station in Johannesburg two weeks ago.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo on Monday confirmed that the rape case was opened on February 10.

“The case was referred to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. No arrest has been made so far,” Masondo said.

Du-Pont first made the rape allegations in December against Maarohanye in a video clip she posted on her Instagram account after the rapper had boasted during an interview with podcaster Mac G about “smashing” her.

In her criminal case statement, which Sowetan has seen, Du-Pont alleges that in 2017 after Maarohanye had was released from jail for culpable homicide, he contacted her through an intermediary to apologise for raping her.

“I met with him [Maarohanye], and asked him if he knew or acknowledged that he had raped me. He said yes. I asked him why he raped me and all he could say was that he was sorry,” stated Du-Pont in her statement.

She also emphasised that everything she said in her Instagram video which went viral was true and that she still stood by all her claims against the rapper.

Du-Pont stated that after Maarohanye had apologised, she never heard from  him until December, when she was alerted about his interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG.

She said hearing Maaronyane “bragging” that he had “smashed” her and taken her virginity made her feel degraded and very angry.

Du-Pont stated that claims by Maarohanye in the interview that she had left because of he had been cheating with singer Kelly Khumalo was untrue.

“I left Molemo because he had been raping and abusing me for two years and ultimately attempted to murder me,” stated Du-Pont.

She stated in her statement that there’s nowhere where Maarohanye denied raping her or Masechaba Ndlovu, who also made rape allegations against the rapper in support of Du-Pont.

Maarohanye's two known mobile numbers appeared to have been switched off on Monday and he had not responded to Sowetan's text messages by the time of going to print.

In December, after Du-Pont had posted a video clip on Instagram which she accused Maarohanye of rape, the rapper had responded via a statement in which he apologised “unreservedly to Amanda for the humiliation and hurt I caused her. I also apologise to my fans and the public for the inappropriate language I used during the [MacG] interview.”

“With regard to the accusations levelled against me by Amanda and others I have decided to make room for the law to take its course,” Maarohanye said in the statement.

Jaqueline “Mama Jackie” Mpambani, Maarohanye's mother, who in December instituted legal action against Du-Pont and Ndlovu demanding that they remove social media mentioning her in their accusations against her son, had disputed the rape claims by both women.

Mpambani was also demanding a public apology in a failed urgent interdict on which the high court in Johannesburg ruled that it was not urgent.

Du-Pont's lawyer Mabu Marweshe said: "‘We confirm that our client, Amanda Du-Pont, opened a criminal case for rape against Jub Jub. As you are aware, matters of this nature are in the hands of the police. We would like to give the police some space to do proper investigations.”

Maarohanye was released from prison in January 2017 on parole after serving four years, half of his culpable homicide sentence of eight years.

In 2018, Maarohanye made his first appearance as a presenter on Uthando Noxolo on TV channel Moja Love which is about mending broken relationships, forgiving those who’ve wronged you and asking forgiveness of those you’ve wronged.
