Service delivery in the Ditsobotla local municipality is getting worse despite promises that residents would be getting clean drinking water and proper sanitation.

Residents said they still fetched water using buckets from a dam nearby while they wait for water trucks that only come at two week intervals or sometimes after months.

said, “They built a pipe leading to a JoJo tank just up the road but it requires a generator to operate.  But right now nothing is coming out,” resident Jan Mokoagi said.

IJust before the ANC's  55th national conference , deputy president Paul Mashatile came to Ditsobotla accompanied by the district mayor Khumalo Molefe.  He promised to install water and fix the sanitation problems.

Another resident from Boikhutso township Dora Malekane said there was no proper drainage and when it rained, the streets became flooded and inaccessible .

“There is no electricity in this section because of the damaged wires and we are still waiting for Eskom to do something about it.

“The sewerage stench is so bad that my grandchild just asked me about it.  This area over here has no toilets.

“These are RDP homes which the government did not finish building. There has been no change after the by-elections. My husband said that Mashatile was here but nothing has changed,” Malekane said.

Mpho Matshego also echoed Malekane's sentiments that nothing had changed even post the by-election held in December.

“We have no toilets.  My mother gets piece jobs, and she doesn't earn much for us to have a toilet.

“We have never seen [Cyril] Ramaphosa. The only person we have seen here is [Julius] Malema only. We have no jobs.

Molefe said there was a R65m budget to improve water and sanitation in the region over the next three years.

“ It has been identified that population of Ditsobotla has grown leading to increased demand. About has been R65m budgeted for the improvement of water and sanitation – R15m Bodibe for water reticulation and R50m for Ditsobotla rural sanitation programme respectively will be implemented through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant,” Molefe said.
