Sibusiso "Prince” Dlomo has signed a contract to face reigning South African junior welterweight boxing champion Xolani "Tiger” Mcotheli, trainer Charity Mukondeleli has confirmed.

The former pro remains a boxing toast after guiding Dlomo to a  sensational fifth round knockout of favoured  Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni in the main bout of TLB Promotion’s bill at Klipspruit Sport Centre, Pimville, in Soweto last month.

He said: “I got a call from TK  (Tshele Kometsi) who offered us the fight against Mcotheli. We were preparing for a non-title fight in Belarus.  I checked many things regarding that fight against Valerie Oganisyan and I realised that that boxer was rated somewhere around number 400 in the world.

“He had only three fights, I thought that they were looking to improve their ranking at the expense of Prince. All that told me that it’s a fight we just cannot win and the money was good but as Prince's manager I told him about the plan I had for him.

“So when TK called I immediately told Prince about it and we both agreed that it is important that we challenge for the South African tittle. Abbey Mnisi (the matchmaker) sent me the contract last week Friday and Prince signed it on Saturday."

Mukondeleli – who also works as an assistant to Bernie Pailman at Westside Boxing Academy – said the fight against the Mdantsane-based champion from Mthatha will take place in Randfontein on December 5. Mukondeleli said  Dlomo from Mzimhlophe is excited about meeting Mcotheli.

Mcotheli whose last defence was when he fought with one hand from round five against Marcus Lebogo in October last year, is a smart and skilfull boxer.

This is one of the few local shootouts that were suggested last week by Sowetan. The other one is for the vacant South African heavyweight title between Tian Fick and Joshua Pretorius.

Cape Town promoter Jackie Brice has applied to Boxing SA to stage it on December 1. Contracts have already been signed. The sanctioning committee must do its job and Brice will confirm officially that the bout is on.
