Nominee for BSA’s 2023 most inspiring promoter of the year award, Nomvelo Magcaba, is excited that she will finally stage the SA junior welterweight match between two kings – reigning champion Sibusiso “Prince” Dlomo and mandatory challenger Marcus “King Labamba” Lebogo.

“If it’s yours it will come back, and if it doesn’t it was never yours,” said Magcaba who initiated this fight back in 2021.

This fight has previously been signed for by three promoters – Zandile Malinga and Jacob Mnisi and a joint promotion by Ayanda Matiti, Hula Dladla promotions – but they all failed to stage due to different reasons.

Magcaba of Mvelo Promotions matched Dlomo and Lebogo in July last year when Lebogo had just won the ABU belt after defeating Siboniso Nzimande at Pietermaritzburg City Hall in October 2021.

But Malinga signed up the two fighters for June 5 last year. Trainer Damien Durandt turned it down.

Mnisi also signed them up for December 11 in Durban but it did not happen because that tournament was cancelled.

Then it was Matiti, Magcaba and Dladla who were to stage a joint event in March. It also did not happen.

Now it is back with Magcaba who will stage it at the same City Hall in Maritzburg on July 28. She says she has already sent all her paperwork with Boxing SA for sanctioning. It will be her eighth tournament since 2018 when he started promoting boxing matches.

“I always wished to see it happen. I even went to the Portuguese Hall in Durban where J4 Joy was to stage it in December. But it is back with me and I pray that they remain healthy until July 28,” said the former professional boxer.

“Dlomo wrote on Facebook complaining that he was not getting fights and I responded by saying it won’t be long before he came back home. Here we are and the day is drawing closer.”

Magcaba anticipates combustible action. He has been nominated as the BSA 2023 inspiring promoter of the year for the awards that will be taking place in Durban on July 30.

Dlomo who is based in Soweto under trainer Charity Mukondeleli will bid for the fourth defence and it will be his first at home.
