Revitalised Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivandila striker Thabo Mnyamane has dedicated his stunning free-kick against Maritzburg United to his son Micah. After months of frustration, Mnyamana seems to be regaining his form at the Venda-based club.

The 28-year-old Mnyamane scored a brilliant free-kick to help TTM clinch a 1-0 victory against Maritzburg in the DStv Premiership bottom-of-the-table clash at Harry Gwala Stadium at the weekend.

His fantastic free-kick on the stroke of half-time was worthy to win any football game. The win moved TTM second from bottom to 14th on the log table with 12 points from 15 matches.

They enjoy a three-point gap over fellow strugglers Maritzburg and Black Leopards, tied on nine points in 15th and 16th positions. Mnyamane also scored the winning goal to help his team register a 1-0 victory over SuperSport United in the first round of the Nedbank Cup.

He could not contain his excitement as he celebrated his goal at the corner flag with a new dance with his teammates. But he said it was not personal despite the manner in which he left his former club. His contract was not renewed at the end of the 2019-20 season, leaving him clubless for months. The Sebokeng-born footballer signed a two-year contract with TTM.

He said he was training with amateurs in Mamelodi to keep fit. “Life is great in Venda. I’ve been through a difficult period in my life, spending many months without a club. But I kept the faith. I want to dedicate my two goals to my son Micah, who turns one next month. My wife has also been my pillar of strength. A special thank you to the boys that I trained with in Mamelodi when I was still looking for a new club,” said a jubilant Mnyamane.

TTM have kept two clean sheets and won two games in a row. On Sunday (3.30pm) they host Stellenbosch at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Mnyamane said the players are starting to get their belief back and are enjoying themselves on the pitch. “The mood in the camp is high. My dance celebrations are to lift the mood in the camp. We’ve been sad for too long and it’s time to play with freedom and start picking up points. I want to score lots of goals and help them to survive relegation.”
