Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has indicated that they could sell their star players Evidence Makgopa and Goodman Mosele to interested teams before the new season starts.

Both players have attracted huge interest following their outstanding performance and Orlando Pirates are believed to be in pole position to sign them. Mphahlele would not confirm or deny if they have received offers from anyone, only saying they are still their players for now.

“All the players are still contracted to us and if something happens before the window closes, that will be communicated to you [media],” Mphahlele explained. “But as I’m speaking to you, all the players are still here and everybody is coming back after the international games.”

The 21-year-old Makgopa has had a brilliant season with Bakgaga and won the PSL Young Player of the Year. He also netted a brace on debut for Bafana Bafana in their 3-2 win over Uganda in the international friendly last month.

After strengthening the team with eight new players, Mphahlele has set a target to coach Matsemela Thoka to better their 10th place finish in the new season.

“We are quite sure that with our additions, we will be stronger. We ended up in 10th position this previous season. My wish is to end up in a better position in the new campaign,” he said. “If we end up on nine, eight, or seven, I should be satisfied because that will be an improvement in the team and that’s what we are aiming for.

“I want the team to grow and improve every season. I want my coach to improve on what he is doing. Even myself, I must improve on how I do things and I must not repeat the same mistakes.”

Mphahlele is also proud to see several of Baroka players being selected to the Bafana squad for the Cosafa tournament, including Mosele, Makgopa and Denwin Farmer.

“I’m humbled because this is the first time in history that we have more international players who are South Africans in the national team and six foreign international players. It is pleasing,” he said. “That makes us proud to see that we got quality in the team. We don’t doubt that the team will perform.”
