Golden Arrows will confirm Lehlohonolo Seema as their new coach on Monday.
Seema joins Arrows following his exit from Chippa United, where his short-term contract expired this week. Seema had an easy task to save Chippa’s Premiership status, thanks to Royal AM’s no-show in the round-robin contest, which is the play-offs.
While Arrows manager Nonceba Madlala couldn’t deny nor confirm that Seema would be their next coach, she revealed the club would announce the man to replace Mandla Ncikazi on Monday. Ncikazi left Abafana Bes’thende for Orlando Pirates a few weeks ago.
“I can’t tell you names or confirm what you’re saying but as the club we’ll announce the new coach on Monday,’’ said Madlala after being quizzed about Seema yesterday.
Sowetan established through its sources at Abafana Bes’thende that Seema arrived in Durban yesterday to conclude the deal. The former Bloemfontein Celtic trainer will pen a two-year deal at the Durban outfit. Seema wasn’t reached for comment.
“Seema is in Durban as we speak, he arrived this morning [yesterday]. He’s joining Arrows on a two-year deal. The club trusts his philosophy can complement the club’s culture of using players from development ranks,’’ said the source.
The informant also confirmed that Mabhuti Khenyeza, who served as Ncikazi’s deputy, will not be going anywhere. “The agreement is that Seema will work with Mabhuti. Apparently, Seema has no problem with that.’’
Seema arrives at Arrows at a time where the expectations are high following a successful 2020/21 term; where they finished fourth to make the campaign their best to date.
Meanwhile, Arrows opted against renewing the contracts of Zimbabwean duo Danny Phiri and Edmore Sibanda, the club confirmed via their social media platforms.
Phiri, 32, joined Arrows from Chicken Inn in 2016. The tough-tackling midfielder made 97 appearances in Arrows colours. Goalkeeper Sibanda arrived at Arrows from Witbank Spurs in 2019. The 34-year-old shot-stopper played 24 times for the Durbanites.
