AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy wants to continue with his philosophy of attacking football. McCarthy said he would not change their style of football.
McCarthy was reacting to his side's 2-1 defeat to Cape Town City in their MTN8 quarterfinal encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
McCarthy, 43, rued his team's missed chances against a team he felt parked the bus in their cup contest.
“I do not care what other coaches are doing against us. We will play attacking football. It is our style and we will not change it.
“We try to press the other teams and take the game to them. We will continue to do that in the new season,” said McCarthy via a virtual press conference on Sunday.
McCarthy said he would use the same formula that helped his charges finish in second place last season. He said he felt sorry for the teams that would play against his side when they have found their form in the new season
Their defeat to Cape Town City was a bitter pill to swallow for McCarthy and his charges. He warned that they would bounce back to winning ways in their next game. Usuthu will open their DStv Premiership campaign against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Friday at 5pm.
McCarthy said they will take the game to Sundowns and try to collect the maximum points.
Lehlohonolo Majoro cancelled out the opening goal by Terrence Mashego. But Mduduzi Mdantsane broke Usuthu hearts with a late winner with two minutes remaining to dump them out of the competition.
McCarthy wants his players to put the defeat behind them and focus on Sundowns.
“We had no business losing the cup game because we dominated the game. But we failed to convert our chances. But we have to move on and focus on Sundowns,” said McCarthy.
With the cup gone, Usuthu will shift their focus to the league, and McCarthy wants to challenge the big teams — Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates — for the league title.
“We'll give the big teams a run for their money in the new season. Expect AmaZulu to be up there with the big teams challenging for the league title. We will not sit back in our first game against Sundowns. We will give it our best shot,” warned McCarthy.
