After their poor start to their DStv Premiership campaign, Maritzburg United hope to go on a long winning streak at home.
Richard Zumah scored the winning goal to help his team beat Baroka 1-0 in Polokwane, and that win has boosted morale in the camp.
The Team of Choice will play against Marumo Gallants at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday at 5pm.
Defender Ryan Rae said they were eyeing back-to-back league wins against another team from Limpopo in KwaZulu-Natal.
“The win against Baroka boosted the confidence of the team. We showed that if we played as a team and worked for one another, we could win a game. We worked hard and fought hard, and it showed when we collected the three points. Picking the first three points so early in the league lifted the mood in the camp. We need to carry on against Marumo and get the three points,” said Rae through the club’s media platform.
Rae said picking up points in the first round would ease the pressure on the team in the second half of the season.
“Getting more points at the beginning of the league makes things a little bit easier because we do not know what to expect in the second half of the season. It is always tough as everyone is fighting for points.
“The quicker we get points, the quicker we could settle down in the second round. It is good to take the three points away from home but at home is where we have to win most of our matches and go on a long, winning streak. We looked at Gallants a little bit and knew what to expect, and we will fight for the three points,” added Rae.
