Maritzburg United midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase is worried about the resurgence of Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their DStv Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday at 5.30pm.
The Soweto giants won three of their past four league matches and seem to be on the right track after their slow start to their league campaign.
Ntshangase, 26, believes that the Soweto giants are favourites to win the game in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.
“We are ready for the battle, and the break gave us a chance to work on a few things we needed to improve on. We have to do things properly against Chiefs. We know Chiefs and know what to expect. They play on the counter and have confidence. They will try to put pressure on us. We are going into the game as the underdogs,” said Ntshangase.
He said they are motivated to get a positive result because they are playing against a big club.
“There is no shortage of motivation in the camp. We are determined to win the game. It is nice to play against a big team and everyone wants to give it a 100%. The big game pushes us to go all out and impress,” he said.
Amakhosi are sixth on the log with 15 points, with Maritzburg in 11th place.
However, Ntshangase is still confident that they will get their house in order, to finish their league campaign in the top eight.
“We don’t have depth in the squad but we work hard for each other. We can achieve something big as a team and finish in the top eight. We have lots of games to play between now and December and if we can get positive results it will make a big difference. We have to guard against injuries and tread carefully,” said Ntshangase.
