Kaitano Tembo could be unveiled as Sekhukhune United head coach, with McDonald Makhubedu and Thabo Senong assisting him.
Sowetan has been told by a reliable source at the club that Tembo will take over the job of head coach.
This may come as a blow to Makhubedu, who took the club to an 11th place finish in their maiden season in the DStv Premiership, as he would have hoped to continue as head coach.
Tembo has been linked with a move to Sekhukhune since the club parted ways with Owen da Gama earlier this month.
Da Gama was a co-coach with Makhubedu but said the setup of co-coaching was not working for the team, hence they parted ways.
But it seems Babina Noko learnt from that as they want Makhubedu to assist Tembo, who could be unveiled before the end of the week.
“The club will announce Tembo before Friday as a head coach,” the source told Sowetan yesterday.
“Makhubedu and Senong are going to be assisting him. In terms of new signings, the club will announce in due course. They have already signed three players.
“They are also in discussions with Daniel Akpeyi, but he is not going to come here as a number one goalkeeper as we already have Toaster Nsabata, who has done well.”
Tembo has been without a team since he was released by SuperSport United in April, after a run of poor results.
Asked for a comment, Sekhukhune CEO Jonas Malatjie said the club would announce if there were any developments at the right time.
Makhubedu said he was not briefed on anything as he was still on holiday.
“I have not been told anything about that. I was with the chairman [Simon Malatjie] recently and he didn’t say anything like that,” Makhubedu said.
Pressed if he would agree to be an assistant coach, Makhubedu would not comment.
Sekhukhune have already signed Denwin Farmer from Baroka, while they are expected to conclude a deal with former Kaizer Chiefs keeper Akpeyi.
Meanwhile, former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids is favoured to take over at SuperSport as the new head coach.
Andre Arendse has been in charge in the interim and guided the club to a top-eight finish after beating Pirates in their last match of the season.
