Musician Loyiso Bala has been appointed business manager of both Tru FM and Umhlobo Wenene FM.

The former TBN Africa channel director assumed his new position at the two stations at the beginning of the month.

Bala comes to the position armed with a postgraduate diploma in business management practice from Henley Business School and a digital transformation certificate from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

SABC general executive of corporate affairs Gugu Ntuli confirmed Bala’s appointment, saying: “Mr Loyiso Bala joins the SABC as a business manager for the Eastern Cape combo, responsible for overseeing Umhlobo Wenene and Tru FM. Bala is a seasoned director in the broadcasting and entertainment sectors. He initiated and signed a successful VOD [video-on-demand] agreement with three telecommunications companies.

“Bala further led the creative process and launch of two additional channels broadcasting to the entire African continent. Among other things he did was initiating and leading the company’s first digital and brand strategy and also signing a deal with a reputable media sales company that saw the channel grow its revenue exponentially.”

Bala said: "The world of radio is new to me but the world of broadcasting is not new because I have worked for a TV channel."
