AmaZulu midfielder Luvuyo Memela and defender Philani Zulu are hoping their impressive 3-1 victory over Nyasa Big Bullets in the CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg will put an end to their dreadful run of form in the DStv Premiership.

Usuthu will take on Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal derby today at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium at 3pm, searching for their first win in the league.

In three matches they played so far, Benni McCarthy’s men have only registered two draws and a defeat and are currently languishing at 14th place in the log table.

“It will be a tough game as you know we have not won any match since the season started,” Memela told the club media department. “So, we are going there to try and do the same thing we did when we played away against Big Bullets.”

One of the things Memela said they needed to do was continue converting the chances they were creating. “As you know, we have been creating chances. It is just that we’ve not been converting them. It was good when we played away, we managed to score three goals and I think that’s what we needed,” he said.

“I don’t think it is a problem for us not scoring goals. We just needed luck. We had to dig deeper and I think it was good for us to win away so that we get the confidence of scoring goals again.”

Zulu echoed Memela's sentiments and said that he believed dedication and attitude would see them win the match today. “I believe that since we are coming from a very good victory, we will continue with that momentum going forward,” Zulu said. “We are also encouraged to see the team starting to score goals outside the country. It shows that we have been getting chances but we were not converting them.”

Meanwhile, Arrows coach Lehlohonolo Seema said he expected a highly motivated AmaZulu following their big win, but they would be ready for them. “We are facing AmaZulu team who are coming to this game from the back of good result having beaten the team that has been doing well in Malawi in the last few years,” Seema said.
